The Stuttgart City Library

The Stuttgart city library is the centre of administration for the public libraries in the city of Stuttgart.

The library building, designed by the Korean architect Eun Young Yi is the so-called "European Quarter" on the site of the former railway freight station and has won many architectural prizes.

Upon entering the library one finds oneself in the "Heart" of the library - a huge void that is really a feast for the senses. Here is where one feels complete tranquility.

Starting from the fourth floor is the "gallery hall" of the library - like a pyramid that has been turned on its head and that opens up to the heavens.

Words simply cannot describe this building nor the feelings that one experiences within it. As such, I shall just let my photos do the talking.

These photos were made possible through the kind support of the Stadtbibliothek Stuttgart and Yi Architects.
